The Hirst Arts Originals section is where I display the buildings as they are designed by Bruce Hirst.
These buildings are designed to help people on their way when they buy a certain mold. When they do so they also get this building example
as you can find on Hirst Arts Castlemolds.
I also made a few of these buildings and although I like to design my own buildings I also built an original one every now and then simply
because they are beautiful and fun to make.
"The Tomb"
The Tomb was built in October 2002. After that it found a place on the shelf and stayed there until I was preparing for the annual war game
weekend I wanted also to bring this piece along so at the end of March of 2003 I gave this project a quick paint job.
I used a light grey brush on the black spray painted base coat followed by an extreme light blue brush and finished it of with a white brush.
The roof did get a basic of red colour and was finished by using two shades of brushed peach colours.
"The Belltower"
The Belltower is my first actual piece I built using the Hirst Arts molds. It was built in August 2002. Although it was the first building it came out
right from the start. Reading he boards about plaster and already having experience with different types of glue made this Bell Tower a fun to built piece.
The paintjob is (comparing to the work I did later on) as basically as it can get. A black base coat (I already used the spray paint technique on this
first model) followed by a medium grey brush and that’s it. I guess I would do it different now but on the other hand this piece has emotional value so I
keep it like this. (for now)
"The Ruined Signaltower"
The Ruined Signal Tower was built straight after the Belltower. I actually did pant them in he same painting session using the same setup of colours.
Looking at the pictures will make you wander what happened to this project since this one looks rather green then grey and black. Yes I redid the paintjob
a couple of month ago. In the topic "this picture” can see how this project looked after its first paintjob at the “Emst War Game Weekend 2003” I wanted to do some testing so I decided to do this on the Ruined Signal Tower.
The black base colour became a hunter green base colour and from there I added a lighter shade of green and finished it of with a very soft brush of Ivory
White.
"The Fieldstone Towers"
I remember the Fieldstone Towers being released. I bought them almost straight away and started to cast like crazy. I simply liked these towers a lot and
I simply had to build them. When I started to paint them I decided to try and add more colours then usual into this structure. I started off simple,
brushing a grey colour onto the black base paint. I then added a brush of Hunter Green, a dark green colour followed by a light brush of a sparkling bright
green colour. I did not mind that this made the whole structure to bright since I added a terracotta brush dimming most of these bright green spots. A
plain white brush made the whole brighter again but I dimmed it again with the final light grey brush.
I am aware that when you read this it is just a series of paints I am naming here. ("Maybe this helps") This is why I will try to make a “Painting library” on my site a.s.a.p.
Overall the tower looks weathered. Especially the terracotta and light green colours are brushed at random on to the surface while the other colours are
more consistent being added.
