The Fodor House

Introduction:

The façade is that from the Keizersgracht 609 in Amsterdam. Build between 1861 and 1863, designed by Cornelis Outshoorn. It was known as the Fodor Museum, since it displayed the art collection of Carel Joseph Fodor. Who made his fortune in trading coal and who donated his collection to the city of Amsterdam in 1860. Currently the “Fodor” house is the museum for modern photography, called “Foam”

This facade is the most recent one of the planned series. It is a bit too new to my liking but I really like the design so I decided to give this Louix XIV style facade a go.

The cutting process:

This façade is the largest in the planned series for now. Fact is that all houses that will get in to this series are reasonably well to scale. If you walk along the canals in Amsterdam you can find all types of houses that differ in size. Not only because of the money involved but also because of the era in which they were build.

I got two nice drawing from the Amsterdam Digital Archives which I used during the sculpting process. Apart from the decorative balcony at the top I did very little concessions design wise.

At the end I am very pleased with this façade and will start my search for a worthy façade that has to become the opposite of this one. I add more on this page when the facade is cast in resin and painted.
